March 12th 2008

Well, here we into March already.  The lambing is almost finished, except for three zwartbles.  Lambing  has gone very well this year, which is more than can be said about the weather, I don't think it's stopped raining all through January and apart from a few glorious bright frosty days it hasn't improved very much we had to keep a very early lambs in for three weeks, but they are all doing very well now.  Our next new arrival should be Pearl’s foal which is due at the end of April, she's looking very heavy now, so fingers crossed that all will go well for her. Alex is looking forward to doing more work with his young working collies, they are shaping up well, but lambing time isn't a good time for young dogs, you need an older, steadier dog for ewes heavy in lamb.

Snowdrops have been beautiful again this year and now the daffodils are coming in a blaze of gold everywhere.  Primroses are out on the banks and I have seen lots of frog spawn in the ditches and ponds. House martins and swallows should be making their way back to Hethersgill and we expect to see them towards the middle of April.  Maybe spring isn't too far away and we can all look forward to a glorious summer.

We hope we shall soon have the pleasure of making you welcome at Oak Tree Farm.

Very best wishes Sylvia and Alex.
